EAEP LAUNCHES NEW COMMITTEE TO ADDRESS SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES

Brussels, 6 July 2022 – the European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) has formed a new internal Committee to work on sustainability-related issues and showcase the e-pharmacy sector’s contribution to turning the EU into the first climate neutral continent by 2050.

As the European Union (EU) is in the process of setting new rules for e-commerce businesses in the sustainability domain, the EAEP aims to ensure that the views and challenges of online pharmacies are heard by relevant policymakers and reflected in the final legislation.

The ongoing discussions, both at the national and EU level, will radically change the playing field for the e-pharmacy sector. Companies will be required to adapt their internal processes, policies, and standards, and external business relationship, to new green standards and targets, with the ultimate goal to contribute to a more sustainable e-commerce sector.

The newly established Sustainability Committee will address relevant topics under the umbrella of the EU Green Deal, including sustainable packaging and due diligence rules. Members will focus on the impact of the new rules on the daily operations of online pharmacies, and work towards constructive input to the ongoing policymaking process.

Profile: The European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) represents the interests of e-pharmacies on the European continent. More than 20 million customers and patients across Europe are currently being supplied by our members and on top of that, our online pharmacies and their more than 4,000 employees are currently active in eleven European markets. Founded in 2001 as the EAMSP (European Association of Mail Service Pharmacies) and with its name change in February 2021, the EAEP voices its interests mainly with political stakeholders, regional and business actors, with the ultimate aim to improve the health of Europe’s citizens and strengthen the European healthcare system. E-Pharmacies have digitalised the classical pharmacy, and therefore act at the crossroads of digitalisation, healthcare, e-commerce and sustainability. As pioneers in providing digital solutions and our innovative and secure processes in dealing with health data, offering medicinal products and digital healthcare service while complying with national and EU law, the EAEP members continuously seek for ways to enhance the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare for Europeans.
