Thuisapotheek welcomed as new member of the EAEP

Brussels, 2 August 2022 – the European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP), which represents the voice of the e-pharmacy sector on the European continent, welcomes Thuisapotheek as new member of the EAEP family. As a leading online pharmacy in the Netherlands, Thuisapotheek will bring additional expertise to the EAEP.

With the addition of Thuisapotheek, the EAEP has added another piece to its membership base, expanding the number of members that offer, among others, prescription (Rx) medicines online. The Dutch e-pharmacy, coming from a country where the online sale of Rx is a well-integrated part of the national healthcare system, is fully aligned with the mission of the EAEP.

Thuisapotheek is among the largest online pharmacies in the Netherlands, based in Alkmaar. While delivering thousands of products to patients and customers in the Netherlands free of charge, the online pharmacy is specialised in chronic medication. Hans Smit, Director at Thuisapotheek, says “As an online pharmacy offering both Rx medication and telemedicine services to several chronic patients, we will work within the EAEP to showcase benefits and best practices of a legal framework allowing patients to order prescription drugs online, and we look forward to learning from other members and contributing to EU policy discussions”.

Profile: The European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) represents the interests of e-pharmacies on the European continent. More than 20 million customers and patients across Europe are currently being supplied by our members and on top of that, our online pharmacies and their more than 4,000 employees are currently active in eleven European markets. Founded in 2001 as the EAMSP (European Association of Mail Service Pharmacies) and with its name change in February 2021, the EAEP voices its interests mainly with political stakeholders, regional and business actors, with the ultimate aim to improve the health of Europe’s citizens and strengthen the European healthcare system. E-Pharmacies have digitalised the classical pharmacy, and therefore act at the crossroads of digitalisation, healthcare, e-commerce and sustainability. As pioneers in providing digital solutions and our innovative and secure processes in dealing with health data, offering medicinal products and digital healthcare service while complying with national and EU law, the EAEP members continuously seek for ways to enhance the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare for Europeans.
