EAEP calls for a fully digital redemption path for the e-prescription

Brussels, 14 August - The European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) welcomes the German draft bill (RefE) for the Digital Act (DigiG), and the implied (political) objective to accelerate and consistently develop the digital transformation of healthcare.

The EAEP assesses the draft law as follows:

  • In order to make the e-prescription a success, a low-threshold, fully digital redemption option is needed: the EAEP emphatically demands the prompt implementation of a fully digital redemption path by means of an electronic health card (eGK) without additionally required PIN entry, which does not exclude any pharmacies or pharmacy forms. A comprehensive restoration of the principle of free choice of pharmacy by the legislator is a top priority for our members.
  • We welcome both 1.1.2024 as the date of mandatory e-prescription introduction and the enabling of e-prescription (token) transmission outside the telematics infrastructure, the introduction of the entitlement to assisted telemedicine, the automatic transmission and storage of dispensing information in the electronic patient record (ePA) and the indefinite lifting of the 30% quantity limit for medical services provided as video consultations.
