E-pharmacy sector to address cybersecurity & data protection challenges as part of new Committee

Brussels, 9 October 2023 – the European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) has launched a new Committee to address challenges and opportunities stemming from the cybersecurity and data protection domain. Members of the Committee will aim to showcase the sector’s contribution to making existing legislation as well as ongoing discussions on new frameworks fit-for-purpose.  

With a view to strengthening cooperation and intensifying the relationship among members in cybersecurity and data protection issues, the EAEP has set up a new working group. The first meeting was held on 27 September 2023.  

The evolving demand for compliance from national and European authorities, alongside the overall increased malicious activity, urge a thorough commitment from the e-health sector as well as from other businesses facing common challenges. As an initial step, Committee members will take stock of recent developments, existing regulatory frameworks, and explore possible future areas of engagement with policymakers and stakeholders.  

The newly elected Chair of the Cybersecurity & Data Protection Committee, David Mantock, says “The recently established EAEP forum will address issues of key relevance to all e-pharmacies operating across Europe, regardless of the size or market. We aim to propose and advance a common, sustainable, and effective approach to tackling the concerns of European authorities, also by building on cross-sectoral alliances**. The core goal is to foster a resilient e-health sector for patients to feel safer when accessing services via digital means”.
