EAEP GRANTED OBSERVER STATUS OF EU-FUNDED PROJECT ON DIGITAL ID WALLET FOR E-PRESCRIPTIONS

Brussels, 29 February 2024 – the European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) has joined the EU-funded POTENTIAL consortium as observer, with a view to ensuring the success of the future implementation of the EU Digital ID Wallet.

Co-lead by France and Germany, POTENTIAL is one of the four large-scale pilots selected by the European Commission to experiment digital identity. POTENTIAL aims at fostering innovation, collaboration and growth in six digital identity sectors (governmental services, banking, telecommunications, driving license, electronic signature and health). It represents a huge promise and marks a crucial step in our collective efforts to strengthen digitalisation throughout the EU.

The consortium currently gathers 19 EU Member States and Ukraine, alongside more than 140 public and private institutions collaborating to define one single vision of digital identity for the European citizens.

As more and more of the citizens’ daily tasks shift onto the internet, it is crucial to have a secure, authentic and verifiable identity and to enjoy full protection of personal data. In the area of health, the project will focus its attention on establishing a secure digital way to fill or refill prescriptions anywhere in Europe. This use-case is of utmost importance to EAEP members, which will be part of the discussions regarding the design and implementation of the Wallet in this domain.

Profile: The European Association of E-Pharmacies(EAEP) represents the interests of e-pharmacies on the European continent. The EAEP voices its interests mainly with political stakeholders, regional and business actors, with the ultimate aim to improve the health of Europe’s citizens and strengthen the European healthcare system. E-Pharmacies have digitalised the classical pharmacy, and therefore act at the crossroads of digitalisation, healthcare, e-commerce and sustainability. As pioneers in providing digital solutions and our innovative and secure processes in dealing with health data, offering medicinal products and digital healthcare service while complying with national and EU law, the EAEP members continuously seek for ways to enhance the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare for Europeans.
