EAEP LAUNCHES ALLIANCE TO SHOWCASE BENEFITS OF ONLINE ACCESS TO RX

Brussels, 23 July 2024 – the European Association of E-pharmacies (EAEP) initiated a new alliance of patient organisations and industry stakeholders – OnHOME Alliance, with a view to showcasing the benefits of enabling patients to access prescriptions medicines online. So far, 10 signatories have joined the alliance, with more expected to co-sign the call to action in the coming weeks.

The new alliance, named “Online order and Home delivery of Medicines Coalition” Alliance (OnHOME), was launched together with ASOP EU and aims to gather healthcare stakeholders and patient organisations in order to advocate for patients’ access to prescription medicines (Rx) through digital solutions.

Online access to Rx has been a safe and secure reality for many years for eight EU Member States (and three EEA countries). However, 19 Member States currently still deny their citizens this benefit and thus prevent patients from having freedom to choose how to obtain their medication.

The ongoing revision of the General Pharmaceutical Legislation (GPL) provides a once in a generation opportunity to address this patient inequality and to empower pharmacies across all Member States by offering additional patient services – online dispensing service and home delivery.
