EAEP APPOINTED OBSERVER OF THE EU E-HEALTH STAKEHOLDER GROUP

Brussels, 10 October 2024 – the European Association of E-pharmacies (EAEP) was nominated as observer of the European Commission’s eHealth Stakeholder Group, to assist in the preparation of policy initiatives and provide recommendations around e-health.

Following the official request for nomination, the EAEP has been appointed as observer for the current mandate and until the renewal of the expert group.

The eHealth Stakeholder Group, launched in 2020, is composed of umbrella organisations and associations with a European outreach. Representing the health tech industry, patients, healthcare professionals, and the research community, the Group provides advice and expertise to the European Commission, particularly on the digital transformation of healthcare.

The nomination constitutes a further milestone for the EAEP and the whole e-pharmacy sector in Europe, which as part of this group will contribute to the development and implementation of legislative and non-legislative initiatives related to e.g. (a) enabling citizens’ secure access and use of health data (such as e-prescription / e-dispensation), including across-borders; (b) the establishment of technical specifications and better interoperability of health data protection and privacy issues, cybersecurity standards, and artificial intelligence; and (c) empowering citizens’ access to healthcare through digital solutions, facilitating feedback and interaction with healthcare providers.

The EAEP remains committed to collaborating with helathcare stakeholders and policymakers towards the establishment of a digital health-friendly environment for citizens in Europe.
