World Pharmacists Day: EAEP stands for innovation in healthcare

Brussels, 26 September 2022 – the EAEP underlines the pharmacists’ positive impact on health. As healthcare systems are increasingly digitalised and connected, pharmacists are adapting to innovative e-health tools and fast-paced processes and needs.

On the occasion of the World Pharmacists Day 2022, which took place on 25 September, the EAEP wishes to underline the crucial role played by pharmacists and pharmacies in guaranteeing adequate health care for millions of patients around the world.

EAEP members and their almost 5,000 employees, many of whom pharmacists, operate in eleven European markets by supporting patients through high-quality pharmaceutical consulting services, contributing to enabling patients to self-medicate effectively and securely. Thanks to our pharmacists, patients in Europe have easy and continued access to tailored, personalised healthcare support as well as a high-quality and safe supply of medications.

In light of the changing customer needs and market conditions, the EAEP urges policymakers in Europe to establish a clear and harmonised legal framework enabling (online) pharmacies and their pharmacists to make the most out of existing and future e-health tools. Ultimately, this means improving the healthcare outcome of patients. A clear example refers to electronic prescriptions and patient files: faster and more reliable access to relevant information supported by the use of latest technologies and digital processes enables the continuous optimisation of drug therapy safety as well as patient-centered care and personalised medicine.

EAEP members, together with their e-health experts and pharmacists, stand for the combination of pharmaceutical and technological expertise for a better healthcare system. We wish all pharmacists across the globe a happy and healthy World Pharmacists Day!

Profile: The European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) represents the interests of e-pharmacies on the European continent. More than 20 million customers and patients across Europe are currently being supplied by our members and on top of that, our online pharmacies and their almost 5,000 employees are currently active in eleven European markets. The EAEP voices its interests mainly with political stakeholders, regional and business actors, with the ultimate aim to improve the health of Europe’s citizens and strengthen the European healthcare system. E-Pharmacies have digitalised the classical pharmacy, and therefore act at the crossroads of digitalisation, healthcare, e-commerce and sustainability. As pioneers in providing digital solutions and our innovative and secure processes in dealing with health data, offering medicinal products and digital healthcare service while complying with national and EU law, the EAEP members continuously seek for ways to enhance the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare for Europeans
