European Parliament's Public Health subcommittee key to keep health an EU priority

Brussels, 21 March 2023 – the European Parliament has recently established a new subcommittee on Public Health, with the aim of dealing with programmes and specific actions in the field of public health, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. The European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) welcomes the creation of the subcommittee and looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with its members, towards the strengthening of the European Health Union . 

Established on 24 February, the subcommittee will gather 30 members among the ranks of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI).

The EAEP praises the decision of the European Parliament to set up a dedicated forum for the works on health policy, as this has become an increasingly crucial topic for the European Union (EU). The EAEP trusts that the activities of the newly established subcommittee will contribute to advancing much-needed policies and initiatives towards the strengthening of the European Health Union. As the body representing innovative pharmacies, also operating cross-border to support patients in need, the EAEP strongly supports a genuine European approach to healthcare, which should primarily aim at breaking existing barriers to the creation of a sound European single market for digital health data and services. A true European Health Union will ensure improved access, quality and continuity of care offered to all European citizens, no matter where, and reduce healthcare costs.

The online pharmacy sector in Europe looks forward to engaging in a fruitful discussion with the Public Health subcommittee, with the goal of promoting a regulatory framework that empowers healthcare providers to better support patients.
